What The Role Is

Internship opportunity: A peek into the workings of the tax authority’s legal team.

What You Will Be Working On

The Law Division in IRAS specialises in tax law and performs five main roles:

• Litigation: Representing IRAS in tax appeals before the tax tribunals and the Supreme Court.
• Prosecution: Acting as tax prosecutor in the State Courts for tax evasion and other offences.
• Advisory: Providing clear and effective legal advice on various tax types to internal clients.
• Legislation: Drafting tax laws.
• Corporate: Advice on internal corporate matters, such as contract drafting and data protection.
  
  
  

As an intern, you will assist or job-shadow in these roles.

During your internship, you will be mentored by a Law Director and will have a Senior Legal Specialist / Senior Associate assigned to you as a buddy.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong interest in tax law, litigation and/or prosecution.
• Excellent skills in legal research, writing and oral communication.
• Rising 2nd, 3rd and 4th year law undergraduates and JD students studying for a recognised law degree (per the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules).
• Singapore citizens or permanent residents only due to sensitive nature of the work.
  
  
  

The internship will be for a period of 4 weeks from 11 May to 5 June 2026 or from 6 to 31 July 2026.

IRAS is a prescribed statutory body under the Legal Profession (Prescribed Statutory Bodies and Law Offices in Public Service) Rules. Subject to conditions, qualifying law graduates may be able to serve their relevant legal training and practice training period in IRAS under the supervision of a relevant legal officer (as defined in the Legal Profession Act 1966).
